Five young people, each trapped in their own circumstances in life. They feel lost and have suffered various hurts. One morning, they wake up from their dreams to news that their alma mater will be demolished. Coincidentally, five broken faces and five shattered hearts reunite at the school that nurtured them. They decide to sneak into the already-condemned and ruins-like campus and, before the bulldozers move in, put on a performance of the film hailed as a masterpiece of 20th-century Chinese cinema.
Afterwards, in a space filled with a sense of hopelessness and decay, a couple goes through the motions of their loveless marriage. Then an old flame arrives, stirring up a storm of emotions……The five young people sing 'Dance of Youth', bidding farewell to their youth and picking up the fallen morning glory.
In scenes from 'Spring in a Small Town', they attempt to experience a predicament and the various tribulations of the characters trapped in the story. Even without an audience or a clear purpose, they just want to experience it one more time, to give themselves a shred of strength to carry on living.
